A minister from Wales who disappeared three weeks ago, was remembered in prayer at the general assembly of the United Reformed Church, meeting from July 11-14. The Revd David Fox vanished while on a walking holiday in Slovenia. Despite an extensive search by police and mountain rescue teams, with the help of a helicopter, no trace of him has been found. Moderator of the general assembly, the Revd John Marsh, led more than 400 church representatives from across Wales, Scotland and England in prayers during a Sunday (July 13) communion service at the assembly meeting in Edinburgh. He named David Fox and said: “Though at present we do not know his circumstances, all is known to you Lord, and all are found in your love”. David Fox is both minister of Elfed Avenue United Church, Penarth and also has a senior administrative role as clerk to the Synod of Wales of the United Reformed Church. He is aged 52. The leader of the United Reformed Church in Wales, the Revd Peter Noble was present. After the service, he said: “We are naturally concerned for David’s welfare, and the congregation he serves at Penarth has been overwhelmed by prayers and support received from the whole Church. As time passes, our hope is tempered by realism and the likelihood that David will not be found alive. However, we still hold our friend and colleague in our prayers”.
