Thanks to all those who attended the A.G.M. on Wednesday 24th November. For those of you who couldn’t make it you will be pleased to know that Pamela Galliers is now our new Elder. We all said a big thank you to Phyl Cary who has retired as an Elder. She has served for twenty four years and for her long and faithful service we thank her. Gwyneth will serve for another three years and we thank her for her service.
Both Pat and myself thanked the Women’s Church Council and the Finance and General Purposes Committee and the Treasurer for all the work they do, and thanks were expressed to everyone who undertakes so many tasks week by week to keep things ticking over. It was a good meeting and we all enjoyed the muffins ! (Pat had been busy baking).
Well, Christmas is almost here. I hope you have enjoyed recent Advent services and that they have put you in the Christmas spirit. The flyer you received last week tells you all about the rest of the Christmas arrangements, so I hope you will be able to join us for some of them, if not all. I am busy at present cutting paper and rolling card for the children to make crackers at the Advent Workshop. This is always a great Saturday at Ewell, ending with a Christingle Service in the Church at 3 p.m. I know our Church will look beautiful at Christmas, it always does and thanks once again to Gwyneth for the tree, the Women’s Church Council and friends for the decorations and Wendy and Neil Stuart for the Advent ring and the candles. This year we are to try a new experiment using the visual screen for the words for the Candlelight Carol Service. Hopefully this will stop the need for switching on the lights and spoiling the atmosphere once the candles are lit. Some feedback afterwards would be helpful.
George and I have been talking to our folk in Australia and Abbie has her Guide Christmas party this week. It will be held outside with a BBQ and swim (temperatures approx 30 degrees). I wonder if the Brownies thought of this when they were Carol singing in the cold at the station on Wednesday. The Christmas tree and the lights are up in Perth, outside too in the garden. Simon and Sara still find it strange to celebrate Christmas in the middle of summer; mind you, Abbie and Joel assure me that Santa wears shorts!. He needs to in those temperatures. Have you finished your Christmas shopping, or are you waiting to see if there might be any bargains? There is always a bargain for us at Christmas, though we will not find it on a shelf in any shop. Jesus is our bargain, but not just for Christmas when the “sales” are on, but for life. He is always there for us.
I hope you have a joyful and peaceful Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year, and I hope we all find our bargain in Jesus in 2009.
