Evening Fellowship Outing
|
The Evening Fellowship is arranging to visit Cherkley Court and Gardens, near Mickleham on a date yet to be finalised towards the end of July.
Cherkley Court, home of the 1st Lord Beaverbrook between 1910-1964, is set in 400 acres of park and woodlands, and has recently been extensively renovated by the Beaverbrook Foundation.
Cherkley Court has sixteen acres of beautiful landscaped gardens that are open to the public from 1st April – 30th September. The southerly views over the Mole Valley towards Norbury Park are truly outstanding.
Spanning 16 acres, Cherkley Court offers the garden visitor a rare and exciting mixture. At its heart lies a series of grand terraces descending southwards from the house, punctuated and flanked by stone stairs and enclosed by balustraded walls. Beyond are breathtaking views across yew woods to the Mole Valley.
But the garden is more than this formality might imply: intimacy is offered by secluded spaces, splashing water and soft planting. There are surprises too: the shell grotto, wild flower meadows and a walnut grove.
You can wander at your leisure or take a free garden tour. They take place regularly throughout the garden opening season subject to the availability of a guide. They take in the best of the garden features and planting, and last about 25 minutes.
The Orangery is the perfect place to enjoy a coffee and some afternoon tea whilst visiting the gardens. The address is: Cherkley Court & Gardens, Reigate Road, Leatherhead. KT22 8QX
