-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Wimbledon Area Co-ordination Team (ACT) met on 17 June 2008.
Members at present are: Revd Lesley Charlton (Convener), Mrs Jeanette Chamberlain (Secretary), Prof. David Cutler, Revd Peter Flint, Revd Pat Hall, Mr John Henderson, Revd Barbara Pearson, Mr Clive Snashall, Revd Jenny Snashall, Mrs Cynthia Stock, Revd Dean Tapley and Miss Emily Young with Revd Nigel Uden (Moderator), Revd David Skitt (Synod Pastor) and Dr Graham Campling representing the Synod.
We look forward to the Area Gathering on 2nd July, 7pm at Kingston United Reformed Church. Peter Southcome has entitled his talk ‘ Rich Tea, Pews and Paint’. David Skitt will offer 10 Top Tips for improving the Pastoral Care in your church; Nick White will lead the session on Children’s Work and Emily Young & Grant Gulczynski will entertain the Young People (Don’t forget your Consent Forms!).
Please could Church Secretaries (or someone else) let Jeanette know at the above address soon (by email, post or phone) how many will be coming from your church and how many will be attending each group so that we can organise refreshments and the allocation of rooms. Clive Snashall (clive.snashall@tesco.net) has offered to run a minibus from a limited number of pick up points.
Some other matters to report:
Thanks were expressed to Revd Barbara Pearson as she retires from Tolworth United Reformed Church at the end of July and Emily Young as she leaves the Team to become the Synod Youth Secretary.
Membership of this ACT was again discussed. We are grateful to Revd Malachie Munyaneza who has agreed to join the Team from September 2008. David Cutler ends his term in December 2008 so we need someone to replace him. We no longer have a Youth Representative so we are seeking someone over the age of 18 to fulfill this role. Please consider whether there is anyone in your church who would be willing to serve. We still need representatives from the Inner London churches.
Permission to preside at Holy Communion was sought from the Synod Pastoral Committee for Cynthia Stock on 11 July at Tolworth’s Women’s Meeting.
Synod Priorities were discussed and local churches that have any comments should send them in to the Synod Clerk by 31 July 2008.
Common Assessment Framework (CAF) For those working in the voluntary sector and faith groups, the CAF will provide a framework for identifying needs at an early stage, and accessing services to improve Every Child Matters outcomes for the young people they work with. Not only that, it will provide a common process for recording and sharing information across agencies. Each borough and county has its own process for this. Emily Young (emilyrayoung@hotmail.com) has more information.
Lay Preaching Day on ‘Doing Worship Differently’ will be held at New Malden on 28 June, contact Jenny Snashall (jenny.snashall@tesco.net).
A ‘Mixed Spice Day’ for Ministers’ Spouses is arranged at Sevenoaks on 4 October 2008 10.30 – 3.00. Contact David Skitt (synodpastor@urcsouthern.org.uk) for more information. Revd Jenny Snashall has been appointed to the Assembly Education & Learning Executive.
Our other meetings planned for 2008 are on 21st October and 9th December.
It would be most helpful if I could have an email contact for each church. Church Secretaries: if you have any news of your church that you would like to share with the team please let me know.
