Dear Friends;
One of the things I like to do in my spare time is to weave. I have a smallish loom and more yarn than I know what to do with. I am never going to be a great weaver, but I love to sit down and plan what I am going to make, and what colours I will use and what pattern, and so on. When the colours are all wrong and the weave you have chosen does not suit the yarn, the results can be just awful. But when it all comes together and the colours work, it is magic! And then, if you make a mistake when you are setting up the warp (the length) and you don’t correct it, it does not go away, but gets more and more visible the more you do. I have learned the hard way that the finished product is only a small part of it, that it is what goes on before you even start weaving, that really matters.
Paul said that if we do not have love, whatever we do will be like a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. Jesus said to take the log out of our own eye before taking the splinter out of someone else’s. Compassion led Jesus to heal and to teach and to feed people. It is important that we get the fundamentals of who we are, as Christians, as congregations. These are part of our warp, and they need to be there. Justice and fair play and forgiveness need to be there. Get the warp right, and the end will take care of itself.
Peace,
Pat
