The wheelie-bin was always green, The box is for tins and for glass, The brown bin I hire from the Council, For garden rubbish and grass.
The blue bag’s for paper and magazines – They’re put out in good time for Friday; Later I trundle them out of the way To make the garden tidy.
Now a new scheme is upon us – We are to have grey bins as well For cardboard and plastic, won’t that be fantastic? And that is not all I’ve to tell -
A lockable bin is soon coming in For all kitchen scraps we must treasure For each kitchenette, there’s a smaller one yet To fill the outside one at leisure.
I dreamt that I reached the Pearly Gates And was greeted by St. Michael, He said, “Come in! Here’s your heavenly bin So you can still recycle!”
For your information: Epsom & Ewell Borough Council’s new kerbside recycling service will be introduced in early 2009. There will be no change to the existing weekly kerbside collections of paper, glass, cans and textiles, or the current subscription garden waste service.
Food waste will also continue to be collected on a weekly basis except that in the future we will recycle it instead of sending it to landfill. A small secure bin specifically for food waste will be provided. This durable, specially-designed container has a lockable lid to prevent insects and vermin getting in and smells getting out. A smaller kitchen caddy will also be provided which can be kept in the kitchen and used to fill the larger bin if you prefer to store it outside.
For the new fortnightly collection of cardboard and plastic bottles, a separate grey wheelie-bin will be provided.
