Four of the Brownies went on Pack Holiday to Oxted with 1st Ewell Village Brownies for four nights at the end of July, and had a very good time.
The depressing news is that when we restarted on Wednesday, September 10th I was informed that one Brownie had ‘Quit!’ and another Brownie also told me this was her last meeting as she was joining guides. Despite sending out promotional postcards and a plea for more girls in the letter I sent out to the parents, we did not get a single new girl.
The programme Katie and I have arranged for this term is to ‘travel around the world’ learning about different countries, their cultures and other issues, at the end of which each Brownie should get her World Cultures, World Issues and World Traveller badges. The first week they began by making their own passport and preparing a scrapbook. So far we have visited China and India, and the girls have learnt how to say ‘Hello’ in Mandarin and Hindi, coloured in the National flags, and National costume and have sampled spring rolls, using chopsticks, prawn crackers and fortune cookies, amongst other things.
On 17th September we had a visit from our two District Commissioners to present Katie with her five-year service badge and to photograph the event.
One of my Duke of Edinburgh helpers had to drop out as she has been picked for special training with her hockey team for the 2012 Olympics and they train on Wednesday evenings.

We are pleased that the Brownie rose is now flourishing, thanks to Pat and Peter, and we hope a more suitable place will be found for it outside the Church.
