Some of you may have already heard this report read in Church a few weeks ago but I thought it worth repeating as it is Harvest time once more.
You will recall in 2006/7 our Harvest Charity was Pump Aid also in that year I was President of the Rotary Club of Banstead and they also chose Pump Aid as their nominated charity. Both the Church and the Rotary Club collected £1000 each for Pump Aid. Pump Aid had set a project to produce ten elephant pumps to be fixed to fresh water wells in ten villages in the state of Manicaland in Zimbabwe. They also suggested we should provide twenty schools with improved sanitation where Pump Aid have already installed pumps, thus twenty pit latrines will be constructed along with the ten pumps already mentioned. Each school is attended by 500 children who will have clean drinking water, a school vegetable garden and access to proper toilets.
The £2000 enabled the Rotary Club of Banstead to apply for a matching grant from the Rotary Foundation Trust. This had taken quite a while to process, lots of form filling in and emails which were often difficult when contacting Zimbabwe. I am pleased to inform you that 13699 U.S. Dollars has now been placed in a protected account in Zambia so that Pump Aid with the help of the Rotary Club in Zimbabwe can begin this project as soon as they are in a position to do so.
Pump Aid and the Rotary Club of Banstead would like to thank you for your support and will keep you updated as the project progresses.
