It began with seven churches, including our own, making Vision Statements. Some were more practical; some were more spiritual. Then came the actual A.G.M.
Margaret Nightingale remains as Secretary, but there was no nomination for Treasurer, a post filled, somewhat reluctantly, by the Rev.Canon Adrian Esdaile, for the past two years.
THE VISION GROUP, begun at the St.Barnabas Prayer Time in September 2008, is at work preparing some future meetings. The next 24/7 Prayer Week at St.Barnabas will be 12th -19th September 2009.
After some discussion on the annual budget, it was agreed that Church Subscriptions should remain as last year. We will continue to advertise Easter and Christmas activities in the local paper.
LENT PROGRAMME. Five talks on modern issues to be held at St. Martin's Church at 8.0 pm on Wednesdays in March, March 4th to April 1st.
THE CHRISTMAS CTiE Tent in the Market 2008. Visitors were somewhat less than in 2007, but those who came were very appreciative. THE MARCH OF WITNESS for Good Friday, will take place on Friday April 16th, meeting in the Central Car Park at 10.15 am.
EPSOM FESTIVAL Doreen Donahue has proposed that it should be part of Derby Saturday, June 6th. But there are no detailed plans as yet while it is hoped to have some form of presentation.
CHRISTIAN AID WEEK. 10th – 16th May: Details of the service to be held will be circulated.
WOMEN'S World Day of PRAYER will be held on March 6th and will have the usual morning Service, at St Martin's at 10.30 am,.when the Speaker will be Andrea West from the Brigitte Trust. The church will be open all day. Then there will be tea at 4pm followed by a Bible Study. The Rev. Canon Esdaile will conclude the day with a short service of Worship and Prayer, at 7.00 p.m. [This event is now past—see page 12.]
DOVECOTE BOOKSHOP. Handley Hammond thanked everyone for their support. He reported that they do not seem to have been a victim of the credit crunch as yet. Income for 2008 was slightly up on 2007.
