The Harvest Project: 'Present Aid'

Thanks to you all for the marvellous sum raised. We have now ordered the following:-

Two Herds of Goats - these will be sent to Burundi where they form the basis of a “goat bank” Farmers join the bank and provide food and shelter for the goats. When kids are born they are given back to the bank which passes the kid to the next farmer who in turn joins the bank and the chain goes on. The goats produce milk to drink and kids to sell and they fertilize the land for the vegetables.

Two groups of three Pigs - these will be sent to Bolivia. Pigs can make the world of difference to the women there, the poorest country in South America. The pig-rearing project gives them a chance of making a better living for their families.

Three groups of Ducks - these will be sent to Bangladesh for people recovering from devastating floods. Ducks can be the first steps to self-sufficiency. I am sure you will remember seeing the amusing video of the ducks at the Harvest Service!

Three broods of Chickens - these will be sent to Angola. Keeping chickens is the perfect way for older women there with health and mobility problems to make a living. The eggs improve diet and health, but selling the surplus helps them to buy basic items such as medicine, salt and sugar.

One Beehive - this will be sent to Bolivia. For farmers there bees are a lifeline. With the money they make from selling honey, they can buy food and clothes. Who would have thought that bees could be such a powerful force in the struggle against poverty.

All this will cost £329 which is the amount we raised, and will help so many people less fortunate than ourselves. Thank you.
