Epsom church was very pleased to welcome members of both the Epsom and Ewell congregations to the ‘Toy Service’ which was held on 7th December. The theme was ‘hands’ and the narrative told the Christmas story focusing on the part hands played in it. From Mary’s hands cupping her anguished face as she was told her rôle, to the hands of the three kings steering the reins of their camels on a circuitous route to avoid Herod and his men. Mary and the white angels were beautiful and determined in the cool of the church, the shepherds with their hand signs showed us their awe, and the magnificence of King Alfred and Herod were worthy of a Bafta!

The final tableau at the front of the church was heart-warming as the players and narrators all stood up there briefly as a tribute to the baby Jesus.

Thanks to all those who took part (even those who kept putting the hands back on the board!)
Thanks also to everyone who brought gifts to support the Christmas charities of the two churches, we filled several black bags.
