This month my contribution is from the secretary and her husb and. We would like to thank you all for your kind words and sympathy following Peggy’s (known to us as Mum’s) passing. It certainly was a shock, and still at times seems unreal, but we are so thankful that she lived to such a great age and did not suffer any pain or loss of dignity at the end. Those who knew her well would know she would not have tolerated that gladly, and we are so pleased that she enjoyed her last few years at Sunrise, joining in with all the activities, especially the cross-word sessions.
It certainly is the end of an era in the family. Many of you will remember all our four parents were such good friends over many years. They spent many hours together, and not only on Church matters; they were all involved with Epsom U.R.C., and before that with St. Aidan’s U.R.C. in West Ealing, where we all lived until the 1970’s. When we all moved to Epsom it was not long before they were starting a Toddlers’ group, joining the Women’s Church Council, the Afternoon and Evening Fellowships, the Finance and General Purposes Committee and becoming Elders. They spent days out and holidays together and they knew more about each other’s social calendars than we did!
Christmas was always a great time with Simon and Suzanne and all the family together, including our dog. There was much fun and humour, they still remember the excitement of waiting for the Nans and Grandpas to arrive on Christmas morning before the presents could be opened and then almost disappearing under mountains of wrapping paper. We were certainly very fortunate to have such a relationship with a united family.
The family looks forward to seeing you at the Celebration Service on Thursday 5th February, all the Funeral details are in this Newsletter.
