Outing of the Churches to Godalming...

On 20th June several car-loads of us from the Epsom and Ewell churches drove to the Sainsbury’s car park in Godalming. We were then shown aboard the barge ‘Iona’, and once we had all settled down, Rosie, the horse was led out ready to tow us along the canal. It was a beautiful afternoon and was blissfully peaceful as we travelled along the canal passing the occasional families of ducks and swans, and other people enjoying the afternoon by walking beside or travelling on the water.

 On narrow-boat with Cream Teas

There was a certain amount of excitement when we stopped at a lock and experienced the change in the level of the water. Off we went once again and were soon being served with scones with cream and jam, and a cup of tea. At a point about an hour after we started, the barge was turned around and we began our way back, and we were given an opportunity to buy souvenirs of our trip. We returned to Godalming at almost precisely 4 p.m.

It had been a lovely friendly occasion and we thank Rosemary, Sheila and Viv for all they did to organise it for us.
