When Pat first announced that she would be leaving us, it all seemed quite far off still, and then, suddenly, it was 'here', and on June 27th around 80 from both churches gathered in Unity Hall for the farewell.
It was an evening of great variety. There were contributions from the choir, involving community singing, a delightful play reading, a song specially written for the occasion by Gwyneth, which we sang heartily to the tune of ‘Thine Be The Glory’, and a splendid meal. In between all of this, there was plenty of time just to enjoy each other's company and to chat, with nostalgic background music provided by Malcolm and Dennis, or to watch the continuous slide show in the comer. What memories this evoked.
All too soon came the time for the presentations, and the Farewell, but the sadness was, I feel, eased a little by our relaxed and happy mood.
Special thanks must go to those who had worked so hard in preparing the buffet meal,, including Val, Phemie and Joan, and Viv and Beryl from Ewell, and to Alan who acted as compère.
