Harvest Festival
|
It was lovely to see the beautifully decorated church on 27th September ready for the Harvest Festival. Sheila’s loaf had pride of place at the front of the church, and there were many flowers provided by the members of the congregation. Our charity for this year was ‘Present Aid’ and we were privileged to have Rev. Donald Finnan conducting the service for us. It was a very interesting service, and it was lovely to have the commentary of Donald to his own photographs as he had worked for some years in India. The highlight of the video produced by Christian Aid was the part about the ducks, though it was all very good. The Brownies paraded, and they brought several boxes of harvest produce for later distribution, and two of the girls provided the readings. The young children went out for their own service and to make small loaves of bread but they returned for the blessing at the end of the service. Harvest Lunch We were very pleased to welcome our friends from Ewell U.R.C. and other guests to the Harvest lunch on 3rd October. Our grateful thanks to Phemie for providing the main dish of cottage pie with vegetables and potatoes, and to all those members of the Ewell congregation for providing all the delectable desserts. It was a very happy and relaxed occasion and, including £63 from the Coffee Morning, we have raised £327 to date for ‘Present Aid’. Our thanks to all those who helped to get the room ready, cook the food and clear away afterwards. |
