PRAYERS FOR PEACE, 2009

Thirty two people of Epsom gathered on Clayhill Green, West Hill, Epsom to pray for peace on 18th October 2009. This is a spot where three pine trees have been planted 'for peace' and it was the day that ended the Week of Prayer for World Peace.
Those there came from all the local Christian denominations and there were also representatives of the Baha'i faith. (see footnote)
The day was perfect and we all felt united in our prayer and our desire for peace in our troubled world. On the service sheet were printed the words of an African traditional prayer:

'May peace reign over the earth ... and every ill word be driven out into the wilderness, into the virgin forest.' If only that prayer could come true in our world today !
