Following on from recordings made of Services of Thanksgiving, most recently, of course, that of Lynne Lewis, and triggered by Rosemary, who expressed her disappointment at having to miss morning messages due to her recent sojourn in hospital, I have started recording the Morning Service.
Donald Finnan’s sermon of 24th January, and the bible reading upon which it was based, was available for a week, until it was supplanted by the entire service of 31st January, taken by Mike Hensman.
The package we rent for displaying the church website includes five files of around 15MB size, each one enough to hold about 15 minutes of sound recording. Experiments are on-going as to how to get a longer time available, and, as mentioned, the recording of 31st January contains the whole service of 61 minutes. This is achieved at the cost of a loss of quality, but whereas music might show some degradation, speech is basically unaltered.
As mentioned elsewhere in this NewsLetter, I still have the other four files carrying the excerpts of Lynne’s Service of Thanksgiving, leaving only one available for the morning service. I will be removing Lynne’s service in a few weeks, after everyone has had a chance to listen to them, and this will leave space to keep each morning service available for three or four weeks, or to put up a totally different recording.
The recording and making services available on the website does take some hours’ work on precious Sunday afternoons (Six Nations permitting!). Is this new feature appreciated? Who has listened to the audio? Comments, please, to me: thanks.
