A few of the Brownies attended the Brownie Adventure Day at Walton Firs campsite on 29th May. This was one of the many special activities provided to celebrate 100 years of Girlguiding.
Our theme for 9th June was Native America and the Brownies were told the story of creation as believed by Native Americans; they each then made a totem pole and an Indian headdress.
The following week each girl made a card and decorated a box for her father for his special day on Sunday, 20th. The boxes had a seaside scene and had to be glued and dipped in sand and a painted lighthouse glued on to them. They were very messy to make, but very effective, and we were extremely grateful to Louise’s dad who came to help us on that occasion.
For the last Wednesday in June we had a ‘pink’ evening, when all the girls and leaders dressed in pink. It made a nice change to see the girls in pink instead of yellow! The girls all made some pink coconut ice and performed various tasks to gain gifts which included balloons, pencils, rubbers, wafers, Fruitellas, sweet shrimps and jelly pig faces, all of which were pink.
Another of the special activities provided to celebrate 100 years of Girlguiding was an outing for all the Brownie Packs in Surrey East to visit the Port Lympne Safari Park on 19th June. I went with seven Brownies, Lynn Everson, my Unit Helper and Louise’s Dad. It was a very early start as we set off by coach from Horton Country Park at 8 a.m. The Brownies enjoyed themselves immensely, and were not bothered at all by the few showers. After lunch we had a ride around the ‘African Experience’ in a safari truck, and got a great view of a lot of unusual animals. As they left the Brownies were each given a ‘goody bag’ which included a soft toy animal. It had been a very good day out.
