Secretary's Letter

February has been a bleak month. I am not only referring to the weather—I am sure we shall all be relieved to see the end to all the cold and rain, and we would all welcome a little spring sunshine—but it has been a bleak month for us as a fellowship. We have expressed our sympathy to Daphne for the loss of her daughter Pam in Nottingham, and to Alfred for the loss of his brother in Ghana, but this week the news of Adam Menagh (son of Kim and Charlie Menagh) being killed in a motor bike accident in Thailand was difficult to comprehend. I know we would all want to send our love and prayers to Kim and Charlie who flew out to Thailand last Monday evening and will probably return on 6th March. It is hard to accept such a young life cut short under such tragic circumstances.

It was good to see a number of folk from both Epsom and Ewell at the Ash Wednesday service conducted by Rev. Jenny Snashall, which was both interesting and thought-provoking.

Last Sunday we were pleased to welcome our Moderator, Rev. Nigel Uden, to our joint service, this time held at Ewell, and there was a good attendance. Nigel spoke about the difficult choices and decisions that both congregations have to face at the moment in the future of both Churches. He reminded us that in Christian life nothing can stand still or remain the same for ever and we have to keep moving on. In fact the chorus of one of the hymns was as follows :-

          So every day we’re on our way,
          For we’re a travelling, wandering race;
          We’re the people of God.

With this in mind we need to think very carefully and come with an open mind to the Church Meeting at 2 p.m. in Unity Hall on Wednesday, 17th March, ready for some constructive discussion.
