Glyn Martin wins award from the Guides

Glyn Martin, now of Eastbourne, and a past member of our church, has been awarded the Girl Guiding Association’s Laurel Award, one of the Association’s highest awards, in recognition of her outstanding service to Guiding and the local community.

Glyn was Captain of our Guide Company from 1981-83, before her move to Eastbourne, where she quickly became involved in Guiding in Sussex East. Glyn has, over the years, given generously of her time as a Rainbow, Guide and Ranger Guider, District Assistant and District Commissioner, District Camp Adviser, County Outdoor Activities Adviser, Chair of Blackland Farm Campsite Management Group, Assistant Chair of Guiding Development Adviser/Adult Support at Region, Assistant County Commissioner and County Commissioner of Girlguiding Sussex East. She has chaired a County Olave International Camp and is at the moment chairing another for 2010 and is involved in many other activities for Girlguiding's Centenary Year.

In April Glyn reached the retirement age when Guiders have to come out of uniform, but she is still very busy with the 2010 camp in July; after that she is hoping for a break, but will be doing some Training for the county as from the end of the year.

Glyn has yet to decide when and where her award is to be presented to her, but I am sure we all send her our congratulations and best wishes on receiving this very prestigious award.
