12th Epsom Brownie Guide Pack

The next meeting was the one before Harvest and the girls brought in imperishable items which they put into four boxes which they had decorated. The rest of the evening was acknowledging ‘Elephant Appreciation Day’. They heard how blind men described an elephant between them, and then they made elephant magnets and elephant masks, and played a game called ‘Elephant Run’. We were very pleased to have three of the Brownies at the Harvest Festival, and they enjoyed making their loaves of bread. Their parents were also very pleased to receive some flowers.
For the last meeting in September, we had a games evening. As there were eight girls there we were able to have two groups. There were large games of ‘Ludo’ and ‘Snakes and Ladders’; a set of quoits and when they had finished all these they played ‘Jenga’. On Saturday, 18th September, I went on a boat trip on the River Thames, this was a ‘thank you’ from the County for all the extra work the leaders have done for the centenary year. It was a beautiful day and we went as a group of leaders from Spring Downs District. We boarded ‘The Erasmus’ at St. Katherine’s Pier and were greeted with a drink. The boat then went up river to Westminster Pier where it turned round. As we were travelling back the other way, a two-course buffet lunch was served, followed by tea or coffee. We travelled just beyond the Thames Barrier before turning once again to make our way back to St. Katherine’s Pier ready to disembark. |
The Brownies restarted on Wednesday 8th September. Just five Brownies arrived for the meeting. At this meeting we prepared for Grandparents’ Day and the girls made chocolate truffles and boxes in which to put them and cards. Later on we had a new recruit arrive who joined in straightaway. On Wednesday 15th eight girls came. A friend of one Brownie came late and just wanted to watch what we did. The girls all made and decorated hats for ‘Make a Hat Day’.
