The Real Easter Egg

And now for something you wouldn't expect in October: did you know that over 80 million chocolate Easter eggs are sold each year in the UK and, incredibly, not one of them mentions the Christian understanding of Easter on the box? Not until now. The Real Easter Egg, the UK's first and only Easter egg to mention Jesus on the box, has just been launched, and will be out next Easter.

The Real Easter Egg explains the Christian understanding of Easter on the box, and is made from high-quality Fairtrade milk chocolate. The recommended retail price of the egg is £3.99. 30 pence from each egg will be donated to Traidcraft Exchange and a further 10% from profits will go to Baby Lifeline. Again, it is the first-ever charity Easter Egg.

The Rt Revd.Nigel McCulloch, Bishop of Manchester, says: "The Real Easter Egg gives churches and schools their first-ever chance to buy an Easter egg that not only tastes good but does good. I believe there will be widespread support for the product from the faith community with many others likely to be interested. We hope that all our supermarkets will stock the first and only Easter egg in the UK that explains the significance of Easter and, through the charitable donation, brings to light the Easter themes of hope and new life."

We are asking church congregations to help prove demand for the Easter message by ordering a direct supply of The Real Easter Egg from us in January 2011.

To do this you need to use our Church order form which will be available in January. So all you need to do today is sign up for our e-newsletter so they can tell you when the form is available to download. (See Alan for details)

The Real Easter Egg is made by the Meaningful Chocolate Company in Manchester, run by people who are passionate about ethical trading with experience in the manufacturing, commercial, financial, not-for-profit, marketing, voluntary, charity and ethical trading sectors. They are an accredited Fairtrade company and are registered with the FLO, the international Fairtrade body and The Fairtrade Foundation. All of their products are Fairtrade, ensuring that their growers receive a minimum price for their produce. They also contribute to Fairtrade's Growers Premium which gives their growers a cash bonus for their produce to spend on improving their communities.

The Editor Says: Would anybody like to take on the ordering of these eggs for us, or to promote it at other churches, or CTiE? Speak to Alan.
