Nonagenarians' Tea Party

On Saturday, 31st July a party was held to celebrate the 90th birthdays this year of Joe Wilson (February), Daphne Dawe (June), Frank Dobby (July) and Top Vaughan (September). We welcomed over 45 people, family and friends of the birthday boys and girls, and friends from the church. It was a very happy occasion, with a wonderful buffet supplied by Phemie and her helpers, with two birthday cakes, one with pink and one with blue, which were cut by the celebrants.

Once again we were treated to a song by Gwyneth with a verse for each person, entitled ‘Full Circle’ and for those that missed the event, we reproduce them here – and well done, and Thank You, Gwyneth.

1920 was definitely a vintage year and we thank God for these four lovely people, part of our Church Family.

360o: Full Circle - by Gwyneth Smith

(Sung to ‘The Church’s One Foundation’ – of course!)

We come to greet four people,
Who’ve reached four score and ten:
Two very charming ladies,
Two very special men.
We’re glad to have them with us,
And it is very clear,
That back in 1920
It was a vintage year.

In order of the birthdays,
The oldest one is Joe.
His health has not been great
But we want him to know
We’ve missed his cheerful presence,
We’ve missed his Irish voice.
Now seeing him and Peggy
We cannot but rejoice.

Daphne’s known to all, and
Still plays a major part;
In all our Church endeavours
We find her at the heart.
She’s come through family sorrow,
We all admire the way
She’s overcome arthritis
And can enjoy today.

Frank has long amused us
With his artistic skill.
His illustrated lectures
Live in the memory still.
His absolute devotion
To Dorothy’s welfare
Was such a great example
Of selfless love and care.

We come now to the lady
Who’s always known as Top.
We’re glad her legs allow her
To come to church, and shop.
We know she loves her garden,
Makes greetings cards as well.
It boosts the coffee mornings
When we have them to sell.

So we have come full circle
With these four nineties here.
We value these good people
And celebrate their year
.
And now in this church family
We toast them once again
And ask God’s richest blessing
On each of them. AMEN
