Welcome to a new organist

Some weeks ago I received an email via the web-site from an Andrew McBirnie, enquiring about our advertisement for a new organist. Time and a half went by, with emails going back and forth, and this procedure has culminated in Andrew playing for us today, 29th August.

Just so that you know something about Andrew, I asked him for a pen-portrait; he has written:

‘I was born and brought up in Portsmouth and studied music in Bristol and London. I have worked as a teacher and Director of Music in schools, Chief Examiner in Music for London College of Music Examinations, and am currently Director of Examinations at the Royal Academy of Dance. My main musical interest is composition but I have also worked as an organist and conductor.’

On Andrew’s arrival, Sheila Carpenter will introduce him to the organ – and our little idiosyncrasies, so that the service should proceed glitch-free. Please give Andrew a warm Epsom Welcome, and make him feel at home amongst us.
