Letter from the Elders
|
This was not my first attempt! I was writing this from Somerset in my niece’s study. Knowing I am more of a ‘dog person’, Debra’s two cats seek me out to prove to me they alone are the chosen race! You can almost hear them - “Cats not dogs, cats not dogs,” Broccoli, the elder, the perfect host, who brings in next door’s ginger tom to share his own meal and then promptly empties his sister Pickle’s bowl, found me in here this morning. Having wrapped himself round me (probably thought I’d fall for the ‘I love you and I need feeding’ tactic!) then spread himself over the keyboard, raised his paws in submission.. and then….. he found the delete button! Would a dog do that? Not at all! He might devour the print-out or fall asleep on your foot so you can’t move, but delete - oh, no, never! So the cat rules supreme - from a cat’s perspective! I’m so pleased we don’t have a cat’s perspective. We know who is Supreme. While the Holy Spirit ‘hovered’, God created the universe, the galaxies. the planets, the earth, and then created light so He could see it all. Having separated Day from Night, He dealt with the rushing waters and created a dome which is the Sky, then went on to control the waters into one place so that land would appear. And it did. He called it Earth and the water He called Sea. We know the story in Genesis, chapter 1, so well. Next God made plants and grain and trees. Lights in the sky, the sun, the stars, and the moon. He filled the sea with creatures and fish, the sky with birds. Then He made the animals, wild and domestic, large and small. Only when everything was finished and ready to His Supreme satisfaction, did He make man. So, we were in it all from the time of creation. This God, this awesome Creator who sent his Son to earth as a human being to save the world from its sin, our sin and all the sin to come, made you and me. In the big pattern of things we might seem so insignificant, not worth much, just a miniscule dot. But God knows us, not only by name, He knows where we are, who we are with, what we are doing, what we are thinking and how we feel about things - even before we tell Him! But most all, He loves us. He loved us before we were born, He loves us now, however many times we mess up. He will continue to love us until He takes us home to be with Him and then, Wow! How awesome is this. Why are we so reticent about telling him anything? Why don’t we say “Thank you” and “I love you too”? Why can’t we feel comfortable talking to each other about Him, to other people inside and outside of the church, to strangers? Tell where God has been, still is, and always will be in our lives. Why can’t we tell about the love He has for us, the love we have for Him and through Him, for other people? It seems such a waste after all the trouble He took to get us here! We must ask Him to free our tongues. We must ask Him to free us from our reticence. We must tell him we love Him. LET’S START NOW. God bless Rosemary P.S. To Broccoli. Thanks for getting me started on this letter. But remember this, you are not supreme - God made you too, and like us, He loves you just the way you are, deletes and all! |
