We wanted to thank you so much for the thoughtful card and gift of bowl of hyacinths that the Womens` Church Council sent us before Christmas. They were a delight when they flowered. You might be aware that we planned to spend Christmas and New Year in Australia, travelling with James and his girlfriend, Sadie, plus Charlie`s brother. Well, that turned out to be something of a saga! Having spent six hours sitting on the plane at Heathrow, BAA then decided to close the airport and we then spent that night sleeping on the floor in the terminal with many others - if you have ever seen this on the TV, believe me it is much worse when you are there! We returned home the next day as it was clear we were not going anywhere - we eventually got away five days later, but we really could have done without all the hassle. We lost so many vital days on our itinerary that we then just had to adapt our plans and stay near the Sydney area. In hindsight, we believe we may have been dealt a good card after all as all the areas we should have been driving through, from Cairns to Sydney, were flooded. It was all unbelievable and we could not believe our bad luck. However, the time we spent in Australia was great and just what we all needed - strange to spend Christmas Day on the beach, though! Yes, we did spend New Year`s Eve in Sydney Harbour watching the fireworks! During half term on 22nd February we faced the first anniversary of Adam`s accident. We received many gifts, cards and messages of support from friends and family, which helped us through a very difficult week. Charlie and I had a couple of days away with James and Sadie at the start of the week and our friends from Hull, Adam`s godparents, spent the end of the week with us. On the Tuesday Charlie joined some of Adam`s Muay Thai friends as they walked over on the Downs to watch the sunrise – a lovely idea suggested by the friends. We can`t believe a year has passed and we are very aware of the loss and heartache felt by everyone who knew Adam – his friends have also struggled to face the anniversary. Adam may not be with us in person but we are certain that Adam`s spirit will continue to live on in all who knew him. We are taking James and Sadie to Thailand at Easter to show them where we were and what we did last year as James was too ill to travel with us at that time. I am sure this will be a difficult time but as a few of Adam`s friends are also planning to join us there, it will be a special time of reflection. Thank you again for your kindness and you are often in our thoughts. With our love and best wishes. |
