News of the Family

We are sorry to report that Marjorie Thomson passed away on 9th January at the Beaumont Westminster Home in Church Street, Epsom, at the age of 94. There was a private committal on 26th January at Randall’s Park, followed by a Service of Thanksgiving at our church, attended by about 70 friends and members of the family. We also are sorry to advise you that Marjorie’s daughter-in-law, Janet, Andrew’s wife, passed away on 17th January. We send our love and support to Ann, Andrew and Robert at this sad time.
Our love and good wishes are with Phemie as she undergoes more treatment that has very unpleasant effects. Dr Marion Thomson is making progress following a heart attack. She is to stay with a grand-daughter for the month of February and hopes to return to Epsom in March. Archie Swan has been in hospital yet again, following a fall at home. He has returned home but is frail, as is Doris. Frank Dobby continues at home with a full-time carer. With Peggy and Joe, the news remains much as before. We think of them a lot and hope that they are receiving the assistance that is available. Joan Davies has not been at all well for some weeks. However, she is under treatment, and we hope that there will soon be a marked improvement. Joy Morgan has also been unwell for several weeks. We hope ere long she will be able to join us again. To these dear friends and, indeed, any of our church family and also those friends at Ewell with anxieties or health problems may you be strengthened and sustained in your need. And Gwyneth adds a couple of bits of news: Friends who remember Percy Roberts will be interested to hear that he is still mentally alert and gracious but now very deaf. My friend Beryl, who attended the Lecture Hall school with me before the war, writes that she and others from the Oxford church take Communion to him from time to time. He is 97 years old. And my niece, Lindsay Cross (née Young) has been awarded the M.B.E. in the New Year's Honours list for “Services to the West End Refugee Service in Newcastle-upon-Tyne”. Lindsay has worked tirelessly for the centre for many years.
