Well, this time it wasn’t really broken. People have occasionally mentioned to You can see for yourselves the solution I came up with next time you visit the Longhurst Room – the judicious positioning of a rubber luggage strap to apply a bit of tension on the connecting rod between seat and footrest to bias it to stay in the stowed position. Closer examination will show the addition of a piece of copper tube to prevent any wear on the luggage strap while in use. Access was not very good for a camera, but the photo I got shows the salient points. And the really clever bit is that you don’t have to do anything different when you use it!

me that it was a nuisance that the seat and footrest would not always stay up in the stowed position, and this was on the list of jobs to do ‘some time’! But some people from Ewell URC, who used the Longhurst Room for their deliberations on 10th July, were apparently a bit wary of it. So the job got pushed up to the top of the list!
