The Elder’s Letter

Dear Church family,

Some of you can remember my father, and others know that he was a minister and Free Church chaplain for the five Mental Hospitals we used to have in Epsom. I often am reminded of his stories and jokes, and the following seemed appropriate for this letter.

A preacher took his young son with him when he went to visit a tiny country church. On the way in, he noticed a collecting box and put some money in it. After the service, the Secretary said,

"We are so grateful to you for coming. Sadly, we can't pay our ministers, but it is our custom to give them the contents of our collecting box." He opened the box and handed the father his own contribution.

As they walked away, the boy said, "You know, Dad, if you'd put more in, you'd have got more out!"

Are we putting as much as we can into our church life at this testing time, and more importantly, in to our lives as Christians?

Every blessing,

Gwyneth
