Letter from the Elders

What a wonderful day we had on Saturday! In my long life in the Church I have seen eight ministers come and go. John and Alan’s grandfather, Ebenezer Hitchcock, christened me. John Bates came when I was five or six so I do not really remember his Induction but the subsequent ones for Stephen, Del, Allan, Geoffrey, John and Pat I can recall. They were all memorable occasions.

Heather’s Induction was special because it was also her Ordination. We haven’t had that before. I found the service joyous, full of warmth and uplifting. I thought all who took part fulfilled their roles admirably. I can certainly understand why Heather wanted John Proctor to preach and I enjoyed Sarah and Tim’s readings. A full church produces an inspiring volume of sound in the hymns which, sadly, is not often heard. Heather’s own part made us especially glad that we had called her to be our minister.

We congratulate the Ewell church on the smooth running of such a joyful day. Even the weather smiled on us. May God bless us all in this new chapter in the life of our dear church.
